What to Expect When Visiting Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom

We are based in Stratford-upon-Avon/England so a Shakespearean cooking-baking experience is a must! All the recipes are from/inspired by Shakespeare’s plays and Elizabethan cooking. This is a unique cooking & baking experience and a great way to experience the culture at a local place.

We will talk about the old flavors & cooking-baking methods and have some fun with the recipes. We will start with chicken & plum pie, you will learn how to make a shortcrust pastry and the delicious filling. Then we will make our dessert, lemon posset with rose & lemon shortbread cookies. Posset is a type of pudding, easy to make and delicious! It’s mentioned four times in Shakespeare’s works, from the Page in the Merry Wives of Windsor: “Yet be cheerful knight: thou shalt eat a posset to-night at my house”
Act V Scene 5
Finally we will make a salmon sallet (salad) and decorate it with real edible flowers! Sallet was used for a variety of dishes, but one popular one was salmon sallet to be fixed on the days Queen Elizabeth required everyone to eat fish. When we finish cooking we will enjoy our meal together and of course with some local ales! As Henry V said: “I would give all my fame for a pot of ale!” 🙂
This is a historical cooking-baking experience but like all of our other experiences it is very colorful and fun!
