The COTSWOLD DISCOVERY TRAIL is a self guided private tour enabled by our beautifully designed maps and Trail Pack. There are 2 day long Trails to do. Avoid expensive tour guides, the map is your guide. Explore things on your own, at your own pace with the confidence you know where you are going.

The centrepiece of the Trail Pack is a fold out map. There is a Trail on each side, one for the North & South Cotswolds. The Trails are circular to complete in a car, structured around many stops where you explore on foot. There are many start points, so you finish where you start, which is the most convenient place for you.

The maps offer comprehensive directions, are packed full of interesting information and loaded with questions and clues to answer which illuminate further on your surroundings.

If you have a limited time in the Cotswolds this is the best way to see a lot of it.

Day 1: Cotswold Discovery Trail – North Trail

Chipping Campden is a gorgeous cotswold market town famous for its golden honey coloured architecture.

Stop At: Broadway Tower, Middle Hill, Broadway WR12 7LB England
The Cotswolds most famous folly, designed by Capacity Brown. Offers incredible views.

Stop At: Winchcombe, Winchcombe, Cotswolds, England
Another Cotswold gem with incredible history and architecture.
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Belas Knap, Winchcombe GL54 5AL England
An ancient neolithic monument built around 5000 years ago sat on top of the Cotswold escarpment. Is one of the earliest known examples of dry stone walling. Its a 15 minute walk to get to from the parking place.

A charming Cotswold town

Stop At: Burford, Burford, Cotswolds, England
A beautiful and revered medieval Cotswold town known as the gateway to the Cotswolds. The view down into the town as you drive down the high street is stunning.

Known as the Venice of the Cotswolds for the charming character created by the River Windrush which runs through the heart of the town with its 5 famous bridges.

A beautiful market town built centuries ago on the wealth generated from the wool trade. Loads to see and do and admire.

One of The Cotswolds most famous and photographed locations with stunning cottages set about the River Coln.

A hidden gem of a village with a wonderful country pub.

Stop At: Painswick Beacon, Golf Course Way, Painswick England
One of the regions many Iron Age hill forts set on top of the Cotswold escarpment offering rich history to discovery and 360 degree views.

Known as the Queen of The Cotswolds this beautiful village offer mush to admire and history to learn about.

Stop At: Minchinhampton, Minchinhampton, Stroud, Stroud District, Cotswolds, England
A delightful little village to explore with a cracking country pub.
Duration: 3 hours 20 minutes

Stop At: Badminton, Badminton, Gloucestershire, England
A charming little village next to the estate of the same name where the famous Horse Trials take place and yes, the name does give its name to the racket sport which was invented there in 1863.

A stunning village with a wonderfully wide central street. This is the only locations the trail that falls into Wiltshire.

A beautiful little market town full of character and antique shops.

Stop At: Thames Head Bridge, Cirencester GL7 6NZ, UK
This is the source of the River Thames. It is market by a large head stone. It’s a 10 minute walk from the Thames Head pub to reach it.

This impressive remains of a large Roman Amphitheatre is the best example of the town and regions strong and Rich Roman history.
