Medieval Oxford Walking Tour

Oxfordshire Trip Overview

Why is being ‘medieval’ sometimes seen as an insult? Why are we fascinated with the idea of ‘horrible histories’?

Modern media has fostered the stereotype that people in the Middle Ages were uniquely backwards, superstitious, violent, dirty, and barbaric.

Join us on Uncomfortable Oxford’s newest tour about medieval Oxford which will cover histories of prejudice and bloodshed, while debunking the myths of ‘medieval’ times.

The tour will explore long-lasting connections between the past and the present, and discuss how some of the issues and debates are relevant to this day.

This tour is run by students from the University of Oxford and lasts for about 1.5hrs. We will walk no more than two miles, but please be aware that cobble stones and uneven pavement may restrict the accessibility of this event.
