What makes Westminster Abbey Tour for Kids with Sightseeing Walk in Westminster London a unique experience ?
You will meet your Blue Badge guide just outside Westminster Abbey in the City of Westminster, and you will begin to discover the history behind this breathtaking Gothic style church, located just across the road from the Houses of Parliament.
Instead of wasting time in long queues, you can benefit from skip-the line access and quickly start your discovery of this incredible church, a London icon and the setting for countless royal events!
Your children will be enthralled as your guide brings history to life with intriguing anecdotes about many of the famous British historical figures who are either buried or commemorated here
The Abbey has been the site for the coronation of all English and British monarchs since that of William the Conqueror in 1066, and is the final resting place of 17 kings and queens as well as notable figures such as Isaac Newton, Edward the Confessor, Charles Dickens, Geoffrey Chaucer, Dr. Samuel Johnson and Charles Darwin.
Making history fun for the whole family, your guide will see to it that you discover all the most important places in the church, such as the Lady chapel, which is burial place of King Henry VII, the Coronation site, where Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, Poet’s Corner, the place where poets, playwrights, and writers are buried and commemorated, the 700-year-old Coronation Throne, the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, the spot where Prince William and Kate Middleton were married in 2011, and many more famous sites.
The visit to Westminster abbey will be followed by a sightseeing tour to discover all the most famous places in the City of Westminster.
You will see the grandiose Palace of Westminster, which houses the two chambers of the Houses of Parliament: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Your guide will tell you many fascinating facts about the goings on in the home of British democracy, and both you and your kids will enjoy learning this way rather than by reading it all in a book!
Right next to the Houses of Parliament stands Big Ben, possibly the most famous and recognisable of all London’s landmarks. Although the name actually refers to the Great Bell in what is now known as Elizabeth Tower, it is commonly extended to include both the clock and the tower itself. The clock was the largest in the world when it was installed in the middle of the nineteenth century, and is still the largest in Great Britain!
You will then head towards the final stage of your tour, St. James’s Park. The park has been at the centre of the country’s royal and ceremonial life for more than four hundred years, and is surrounded by some of the city’s most famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace and Westminster.
It is also a place where you can enjoy a little peace and tranquility, away from the hustle and bustle which is typical of a city as big as London, and a stroll through its idyllic greenery.
.Your walk, and the tour, will end right outside Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s official London residence. When the Queen is at home, you can see her royal flag flying from the flag pole above the Palace. Here, you’ll be able to admire the characteristic sight of the guardsmen at the palace entrance wearing their traditional red jackets and tall, furry hats known as bearskins. This is the perfect way to round off a memorable and highly enjoyable tour.
