The mysterious and famously courageous warriors of the past specialised in protecting pilgrims en-route to the Holyland, probably the most dangerous undertaking of any would-be pilgrim.

Scuttle your way through the backstreets off Fleet Street, go-inside the “Twinings” tea-shop, stop at Dr Johnson’s House and peek inside an old Inn or two. City churches increase in number, but none are more impressive than St. Paul’s Cathedral, one of Europe’s great architectural masterpieces. There is an opportunity to go inside at the end of the tour or extend to make it part of the day.

See World War Two, bombed-out churchyards and secret gardens. Now you will go below ground and be surprised by a superb world-class art gallery and London’s Roman Amphitheatre. In 1988 archaeologists were rather surprised to find a huge arena while conducting a routine dig at the Guildhall. The one hundred year search for London’s Roman arena was over and now beautifully preserved underground for all to see.
