Stop At: Stonehenge, Amesbury SP4 7DE England

Stonehenge is one of the most important sites in the world, with UNESCO World Heritage status. Famous for its prehistoric megaliths, the area surrounding Stonehenge is also a hugely important archaeological site which attracts millions of visitors every year. A marvel of prehistoric engineering, creativity, and determination Stonehenge is a place like no other.

Upon arrival at Stonehenge, your guide will show you the facilities at the monument, and give you time to use them should you wish (the drive from London is approximately 2 hours including a stop at Fleet Services). Your guide will queue for you, obtain your audio guides, and assist you in getting the shuttle bus from the Stonehenge visitor centre to the monument. You will then have time to explore the stones at your leisure using the excellent Stonehenge audio guide provided by English Heritage.

Before leaving Stonehenge you will be able to purchase lunch, which you will be able to eat in the car as we drive to Highclere.

Highclere Castle is famous throughout the world as the real Downton Abbey. Used as one of the filming locations for the hit TV series and film, this gorgeous stately home is a must-see for any fan of the series, or anyone who is interested in exploring one of the most beautiful stately homes in England.

Currently home to the 8th Earl of Carnarvon and his family, the house is open for a limited period every year throughout the spring and summer.

Upon arrival at Highclere, your guide will secure your entry to the House, Grounds & Egypt Exhibit which offers you the chance to see everything the house has to offer. Once inside the house, you will be able to view the rooms on the ground floor, and first floor levels before exploring the exhibit, which charts the 5th Earl’s exploits with the famous egyptologist Howard Carter and their discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Finally, you will have time to explore the stunning grounds before returning to London for approximately 6 pm.
