You will be picked up direct from your Hotel or accommodation in a comfortable private vehicle by me, (Richard) I’m a huge fan of the show and passionate about Cornwall.

Day one will focus on the Village and locations such as Mrs Tishell’s Pharmacy, The School, The Pub, and of course the Doc’s Cottage and Surgery. Plus plenty of time to try a traditional Cornish Pasty or Cream Tea.

Day two will cover other important filming locations used in the show around the village of Tintagel, and surrounding area. During the spring and summer months you may even catch a glimpse of the cast and crew filming in the village.

Itinerary

Day 1: Doc Martin’s Port Wenn – Port Isaac and Tintagel

Stop At: Harbour, Port Isaac, Cornwall, Slipway Hotel Garage, Port Isaac England
I will be your personal guide to one of my favourite places in the world!  The TV series Doc Martin is hugely popular in many places across the world. It has a fantastic cast and heart warming story lines, but in many ways the real star of the show is beautiful Cornwall in south west England. The show is filmed in and around the gorgeous fishing village of Port Isaac (Port Wenn in the show)

This tour is flexible and we go at your own pace – No rushing from place to place – This is your tour, your way!

Day One

It takes around 4.5 hours to get to Cornwall, but we will stop for refreshment breaks, and enjoy a scenic drive through the English Countryside.

We will head first to Tintagel the legendary birthplace of King Arthur. Doc Martin fans will recognize the dramatic coastline used as a backdrop in many episodes, and other locations like the Castle Hotel where many restaurant, reception and party scenes are filme. Perched on the cliffs is St Materiana’s Church, which provided the venue for PC Penhale’s disastrous wedding.

Lets now make our way to Port Isaac – AKA Port Wenn.

We will arrive in Port Isaac for Lunch. Perhaps you can tuck in to a traditional Cornish Pasty or the huge Fish & Chips at the Golden Lion Pub (the real life pub that is renamed the Crab & Lobster in the TV series)

Then we can explore the Village – The School where Louisa is Head Teacher, Mrs Tishell’s Pharmacy, Characters Homes, Key filming locations and of course the Doc’s surgery and Cottage!

For those with some energy we will walk to the top of the village and on to the cliffs to get a beautiful view of the village often used in the filming.Once we have toured the Village we can make the short trip on foot or by car to Port Gaverne – Home to PC Penhale and the beach often used for filming scenes and story lines.

After seeing the sights of Port Isaac you may want to freshen up at your accommodation and then head into the village for some truly exceptional seafood fresh from the local fishermen.

I will leave you to enjoy your evening in Port Isaac as you wish, but will be on hand for anything you need.

Day 2: Doc Martin Country – Locations Outside Port Isaac

Stop At: Delabole Post Office, 51 High St, Delabole PL33 9AA, UK
Day two begins with a drive through the North Cornish countryside to the small Village of Delabole. Just outside the village is Aunty Joan’s (later Ruth’s) farm. This is private property, but with owners consent we will take a look at the farm house.

The local School in Delabole is used for the interior class room scenes in Doc Martin, and local School Children are used as extras.
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Doyden Castle, Doyden, Port Quin, Port Isaac PL29 3SU, UK
This folly Castle was used as the dramatic season finale location where Mrs Tishell took baby James Ellingham when she self medicated and believed the Doc was in love with her.

The tiny Castle can actually be booked for overnight accommodation, and you need to book well in advance, but what a treat for a Doc Martin fan!
Duration: 25 minutes

Stop At: Beach Port Quin, Saint Minver Highlands, Wadebridge PL27, UK
This tiny Hamlet is set in a pretty cove, and has some beautiful National Trust owned cottages. One of these cottages is the home to Peter Cronk and his mother in Doc Martin. Peter is a reoccurring character now well into his teens who idolizes the Doc and wants to be a great Doctor just like his hero.
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Old Inn & Restaurant, St Breward, Bodmin PL30 4PP, UK
This rustic country pub is where Louisa goes into labor after her Taxi driver becomes ill and crashes the car. We can sit and enjoy a drink near the spot where James Ellingham entered the world!

Poldark fans will be interested to know that St Breward is also a filming location for the hit BBC series. Ross and Demelza’s cottage is nearby on Bodmin Moor, and the cast and crew often drink in here during filming.

Pass By: Bodmin Moor, Bodmin England
“He’s gone Bodmin” is a phrase often used in Doc Martin. The locals use this expression to mean someone who has gone mad or crazy. This is because there was formally a ‘lunatic asylum’ in Bodmin, and stories were told of inmates that escaped and wondered the lonely moor at night.

In reality its a beautiful, wild landscape with farms dotted here and there, and often used as a back drop in story lines when the Doc goes to visit an out of the way location, or in one episode where he crashes his car and sleeps in it overnight, or the funny episode when PC Penhale goes survival training alone and shoots himself in the foot.

Stop At: Jamaica Inn, Bolventor PL15 7TS England
This famous or perhaps infamous coaching Inn has stood all alone in the moors for centuries attracting Smugglers, Pirates and Vagabonds. Author Daphne Du Maurier took inspiration from the Inn and wrote the novel Jamaica Inn which has been adapted for TV many times. It is also said to be extremely haunted!

For us it makes a perfect stop for lunch before our journey back to London.
