Itinerary
Day 1: Doc Martin and Port Wenn Filming Locations – Port Isaac and Tintagel
Stop At: Church Hill, Port Isaac PL29 3RQ, UK
Doc Martin and Poldark have many fans around the world. Doc Martin is a more light hearted drama with lovable characters and amusing story lines. Poldark is a little more moody and atmospheric. What do they share in common? The answer -Cornwall
Both of these wonderful TV Shows are shot in Cornwall in the south west of England, and many of the locations are relatively close to each other. This tour is ideal for fans of both shows, as we will divide out time equally between them.
A personalised tour, bespoke to you. No large groups, just you and me!, your personal tour guide and driver.
Day One – All about the Doc – Cornwall is about 4.5 hours from London, so we will depart early to make the most of our trip. (Other pick up locations are possible if you are not staying in London) We will break up the journey on route to stretch our legs and take refreshment before heading on down through Devon and in to Cornwall. Arriving around lunchtime we will head first to Tintagel the legendary birthplace of King Arthur.
Doc Martin fans will recognize the dramatic coastline used as a backdrop in many episodes, and other locations like the Castle Hotel where many restaurant, reception and party scenes are filme. Perched on the cliffs is St Materiana’s Church, which provided the venue for PC Penhale’s disastrous wedding.
Lets now make our way to Port Isaac – AKA Port Wenn.
Perhaps you can tuck in to a traditional Cornish Pasty or the huge Fish & Chips at the Golden Lion Pub (the real life pub that is renamed the Crab & Lobster in the TV series)
Then we can explore the Village – The School where Louisa is Head Teacher, Mrs Tishell’s Pharmacy, Characters Homes, Key filming locations and of course the Doc’s surgery and Cottage. For those with some energy we will walk to the top of the village and on to the cliffs to get a beautiful view of the village often used in the filming. Once we have toured the Village we can make the short trip on foot or by car to Port Gaverne – Home to PC Penhale and the beach often used for filming scenes and story lines.
Then perhaps it will be time for a traditional Cornish Cream Tea?
I will leave you to enjoy your evening in Port Isaac as you wish, but will be on hand for anything you need.

Day 2: Poldark’s World
Stop At: Holywell Bay Beach, Holywell Bay, Newquay TR8 5PP England
Holywell Bay is one of the most used backdrops in Poldark. This becomes Warleggan Bay in the show, and is often the location used when Ross and Demelza have a dramatic altercation as the waves crash around them. Demelza also had a secret rendezvous with Captain Hugh in the nearby Dunes, and Drake and Morwenna make wishes in the water pools of the caves.
The cliffs above the bay are also used for the scenes of characters galloping on horseback or meeting on the coastal footpaths.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Wheal Coates Tin Mine, St Agnes England
Wheal Coates is the stand in for Wheal Grace and Wheal Leisure, the mines owned by Ross Poldark. The dramatic cliffs, coupled with the crashing waves below are also used in many scenes from the series.
If you are feeling energetic we can climb down the footpath and visit the Towanroath Engine House, one of the most photographed spots in Cornwall, and one of the best preserved mine shafts in the area.
The cliff paths are used in the show, and you may feel that Ross Poldark or George Warleggan will appear any moment on horseback.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Jamaica Inn, Bolventor PL15 7TS England
This Coaching Inn in the middle of Bodmin Moor was the real life haunt of smugglers, pirates and vagabonds due to it’s lonely location away from the eyes of the revenue men.
The real life events here inspired the author Daphne Du Maurier to write the novel ‘Jamaica Inn’ which has been made in to many TV versions, most recently by the BBC.
Ross and Demelza live in Nampara House in the show, and the scenes of their home are filmed near the Jamaica Inn in the village of St Breward.
The Jamaica Inn is also said to be one of the most haunted places in Britain. Its also a perfect place to take a hearty pub lunch, and pick up some Poldark Souvenirs!
