Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Blenheim Palace, Woodstock OX20 1PP England

The drive to Blenheim Palace takes approximately 1.5 Hours from London. But London seems like a whole world away when you gaze for the first time at Blenheim Palace.

Perhaps King George III words to the 4th Duke of Marlborough say it all, “We have nothing to equal this!”

The land and money to build Blenheim Palace was gifted to John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough by Queen Anne for his leadership and victories during the War of the Spanish Succession. With a final great triumph at the battle of Blenheim.

His wife Sarah was a great friend of Queen Anne until the relationship soured and both John and Sarah went into exile in France leaving Blenheim Palace unfinished. Queen Anne died on 1st August 1714 and the Marlborough’s moved back to England the next day. By 1722 the Palace was complete but John Churchill died the same year.

Today the 12th Duke of Marlborough and his family live in the Palace, therefore you quite literally are a guest of his Grace the Duke when you visit this spectacular family home.

The Palace has had a long and sometimes troubled past, but all the best stories have ups and downs. Your personal Driver and Guide will give you a detailed history of the magnificent Palace and a tour through it’s many beautiful rooms, including the room where Sir Winston Churchill was born in 1874. If you are feeling energetic there are beautiful walks to be had in the gardens, and for those with a particular interest in Winston Churchill, your guide will take you to the spot where he awkwardly proposed to Clementine in August 1908,

There are optional tours available at certain times of the year when the Duke of Marlborough and his family are not in residence. Those interested may want to visit his personal apartments or perhaps see how life below stairs in the servants quarters used to be.

Lunch can either be taken at the Palace or in the nearby Villages of Woodstock or Bladon.

A personalised and non rushed tour at your pace.

Duration: 4 hours

Stop At: St. Martin’s Church, Church Street, Bladon, Woodstock OX20 1RW England

An optional visit to the small Church where Sir Winston Churchill and his Wife Clementine are buried. Sir Winston is buried with other members of his family including Consuelo Vanderbilt who in part inspired the character of Cora in Downton Abbey.

Very close to the Church is a pub which may make an ideal lunch stop.
