The Mystical Isle of Skye is not just amazing for its astonishing natural beauty but also for the enchanting stories and folklore telling of mythical creatures, witches and water-horses, giants and ghosts, saints and sinners, fairies and kelpies. I aim to be your story teller and pass on my beautiful knowledge of the ancient tales, mainly from the Gaelic–Norse period, which have been handed down by word of mouth to entertain many generations of Island people with deeds of heroism and bravery against implacable forces.

O come with me where the sea-birds fly
Remote and far by the Isle of Skye
Away with the winds a-sailing!
Where dreams are the gifts availing
Will ye come with me?

(Poem From ‘Come with me’ by Pittendrigh Macgillivray)

This small and magical feature of the Island, dotted with gnarled rowan trees, was formed over 100,000 years ago by post-Glacier landslides, while years of erosion and the elements sculpted the Torridonian sandstone into unusual patterns of cone-shaped craggy hillocks, random boulders, tranquil lochans and even a basalt castle.

Architecturally Dunvegan is a building of high importance, containing the work of at least ten building periods ranging from the 1200s to the 1850s. Dunvegan Castle today has a unified design with Victorian dummy pepper-pots and defensive battlements running the whole length of the roof line. This romantic restoration was carried out by the 25th Chief between 1840 and 1850 to the plans of Robert Brown of Edinburgh at a total cost of £8,000. Underneath this outer skin however, there remains a series of five separate buildings each with its own unique character and story to tell.
