The Edinburgh Military Tattoo (officially known as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo since 2010) is a series of performances that takes place on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle every year during the month of August. Located in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, Princes Street is a significant boulevard that serves as the city’s primary shopping district.
In Edinburgh’s New Town, it is the southernmost street, extending approximately 1.2 km (three quarters of a mile) from Lothian Road in the west to Leith Street in the east.
Located on the southern end of Princes Street Gardens, the street has few buildings and offers spectacular panoramas over Edinburgh’s Old Town as well as the castle and the surrounding valley.
All traffic is prohibited on much of the street, with only the eastern end available to all modes of transportation.
