Medieval Lavenham: A Self-Guided Audio Tour

Having been brought up in the area I have collected various stories about these buildings. Here I share such stories in an audio tour. This is a tour where the Tudor wool traders start to be more than words in a book. The Dukes of Oxford (the De Vere family) and the wealthiest commoners in England rubbed shoulders in these streets 900 years ago. We seek out the clues that they left behind over the centuries to get a glimpse into their lives.

This tour starts just outside Cock Horse Inn. Learn about the story behind the name as you start the tour.

The tour passes through Lavenham Hall – a picturesque garden area.

The tour stops briefly in front of the Swan so that you can learn about it in a leisurely fashion.

The tour passes by Lavenham Priory so you can learn a bit more about its history.

The tour passes by the De Vere house and gives you the opportunity to discover more about the De Vere family.

The tour passes by the Lavenham Guildhall. It was built around 1530 and was called the Guildhall of Corpus Christi.

The tour ends just outside Lavender Cottage which is not far from the start of the tour.
