Why choose this East Midlands tour ?
Stamford is a real hidden jewel of England. It has unique mix of history and fabulous Georgian architecture along with some terrific old shopping streets. Maybe that is why Sir Walter Scott declared Stamford to be “the finest stone town in England”.
With over 600 listed buildings of gorgeous limestone including five of the most spectacular medieval churches anyway it is perhaps not a surprise that it is often voted amongst the best places to live and also home to best high street in Britain.
Next to Burghley House, known around the world for its Horsetrials and depicted in all sorts of big TV and cinema shows.
Burghley is one of the largest & grandest surviving houses of the 16thC & amongst the very finest examples of the great Elizabethan houses.
We will explore all over the house in the service areas & upstairs for all the magnificent rooms and corridors all richly decorated with fabulous works of art.
Finally we can explore the gardens and landscaped estate.

What makes Stamford and Burghley House Private Tour a unique experience ?
Stamford is said to be the most beautiful stone and Georgian town in England. Spend a few hours here and you’ll tend to agree and you might recognise a few locations that have been used onscreen.
Soon after we leave the station, we will pass through the gorgeous Town Meadows and cross the River Wellend.
A modern cross commemorating a sad moment in history.
There isn’t too much left of Stamford Castle though the town walls appear here and there, sometimes where you least expect them.
Stamford High Street and the surrounding lanes are full of wondrous independent shops and producers. It would be rude not to check some out. I like the cheesemongers!
The whole of Broad Street is actually a lovely place to walk down but we will take a particular peek at this beautiful old building that is still in use today.
There is no shortage of stunning old churches in Oakham and we can look at any we happen upon. If you only pick one, perhaps this should be it.
Perhaps the Creme de la Creme of beautiful spots in Stamford a resident who in his own way, changed the world.
Burghley House, known around the world for its Horsetrials and depicted in all sorts of big TV and cinema shows.
Burghley is one of the largest and grandest surviving houses of the sixteenth century and amongst the very finest examples of the great Elizabethan houses.
It was conceived by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I and built between 1555 and 1587. When you visit you can only imagine the power and ambition of the most powerful courtier of the Elizabethan era.
We will explore all over the house, see the Downstairs where those in Service worked as you may have seen in Downton Abbey. Then upstairs for all the magnificent rooms and corridors all richly decorated with fabulous works of art.
The gardens and estate of Burghley House are famously used in the Horse Trials and several other tremendous annual events held here.
We can explore some of the gardens or take a wander through the majestic estate.
