Day 2: Londonderry
Stop At: County Londonderry, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland
Walking tour in Londonderry with a visit to a grave, one of the most haunted place in Ireland.Bishop Higgins’ Grave. You aren’t supposed to disturb the dead – unless you want to be haunted. Such was the case at St Columb’s Cathedral when renovations in 1867 disturbed the grave of former bishop William Higgins. His tomb was moved inside the cathedral and that’s when things started to get weird. Workers began hearing footsteps in the locked gallery, apparitions appeared in photographs and the organ would sound without a soul near it. Londonderry is the only completely walled city in Ireland. And it is one of the finest in Europe. Take a walking tour and hear the fascinating stories about brutal 17th century sieges, starving citizens and fearsome roaring cannons.
