What makes The Locals’ Guide to Dublin Walking Tour a unique experience ?

We begin our tour visiting Dublin Castle grounds and gardens. Here we’ll see the sites of the foundation of the city, as well as get a look at the central location of the 700-year period of the British rule. NB the tour is of the grounds only.

We will visit St. Patrick’s park beside the cathedral. We will hear about the contribution of the Guinness family to the heritage of Dublin through their charitable works including the restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the establishment of the Iveagh Trust housing complex.

Here we will see the 1000-year history of Dublin’s oldest building dating back to viking times. NB the visit is to church grounds only.

Here we will see the Dublin’s oldest street and hear about the excavations which unearthed the remains of the original viking city.

We take a brief detour into Temple Bar. Here I’ll point out the lesser known shops and bars, as well as give advice on places to avoid.

We will visit the Icon Walk and see how a public art project brightened up some of the darker places of the city.

We will pass by Dublin’s oldest university, and hear a little about its long history and famous alumni. I’ll also give some advice on visiting the popular Book of Kells and Long Room library.

On O’Connell street we will learn about the long struggles of the 19th and 20th century against British rule which culminated in the rebellion of Easter 1916

At our last stop we will learn some of the reasons behind the rebellion of 1916 as well as get a look at some of the damage which still remains from the week long battle over 100 years ago.
