The gallery includes Social History and Archaeology: from a case dedicated to Alfred Wainwright, to Ancient Egyptian artefacts and antique Victorian and Georgian items. Highlighting conservation issues this gallery offers an exciting introduction to a variety of animals, birds and insects and their natural environments around the World. Geology has also been a main part of the museum collection from its inception in 1796 as a commercial venture by local collector William Todhunter.
